Yo-Yo Ma is a Grammy award winning Cellist, who was born in Paris, France in 1955. He began studying music at the age of four and moved to New York City with his family at the age of seven. He is a graduate of Julliard School and Harvard University. He has also received many accolades through his career including the National Medal of Honor (2001), and the Presidential Medal of Freedom (2011).
Ma has also appeared in pop culture as an animated character in the Simpson, and the children’s television show Arthur. One specifically notable appearance was on the critically acclaimed children’s program Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood in 1985. While appearing on the program Ma became friends with the host Fred Rogers, who gave him advice on how to handle media attention and use his celebrity status for good.
